Langford Skatepark

Jensen Beach, FL

Designed/built by John Woodstock. I visited this park back in Feb. 03 during the construction phase. Finally I returned to Jensen Beach in April 04 and had a chance to skate it.

First, it is free, but the rules state you have to go to the community center and pay for a one year pass that costs $20.00. That sucks! Lucky for me the pad nanny was very cool when I explained that I was only in town for a few hours (which was true) and was leaving town when I was finished skating. She let me in, as long as I signed the waiver and wore all my pads. She told me that the other pad nanny is not as cool... a few day prior a visitor showed up with 4 kids and she made him pay $20.00 for each of them.

The park has two sections, beginner and intermediate/advanced. I am not sure what the overall size is, but I learned that the cost of the park was insanely high, something like over $700k! That is WAY too much for what is offered.

Both areas are fun to skate, but I question the wood/skatelite structures in the middle of the big section. I laughed when a local said they place them in the middle to slow you down. Actually I learned that Mr. Woodstock built them out of wood so "you can change the design". Hmmm sounds like modular... If you build it right the first time, why would you want to change it? While wood structures are very well built, the wet, humid Florida weather will take it's toll on them. Sounds more like planned obsoleteness to me.

The finish of the concrete is nice and overall the park has a good vibe, except for the mandatory yearly fee for the users. That fee is nothing more than a tax on the skaters to pay for the pad nanny and for upkeep of the park. I wonder if people that play on the tennis and basketball courts in the town of Jensen Beach have to pay a membership fee?

Open 8 am to 10 pm, lights, monitored, membership fee required ($20.00 per year)

Located at 2151 NE Dixie Hwy (at the intersection of NE Dixie Hwy and NE Eleanor Ave)

A full service skateshop is located around the corner! Visit them.
