I am sure most of you have heard of the famous Mustang Ranch. If you are too young or have been living under a rock for a life time, the Mustang Ranch was a brothel (aka: whorehouse), located outside Sparks, NV. After the IRS took possession of the joint and the owner split the country, the ranch was closed and all the contents were sold off. The government wants to sell the building/land, but the structure is crap. The land is worth more than the building.
Last winter I read an online article about one of the ranch madams wanting to save the building and turn the place into a Museum. A photo showed here standing next to the half-drained kidney pool. Wow, I thought... I wonder how the pool looked under that green water??? I vowed to check out the place if I traveled back to Reno.
I was in Reno in July 2003. After skating Mira Loma (Rattlesnake Mtn), I drove to the Ranch (about a 10 minute drive from Reno). The place was still there, not tore down yet. Found a hole in the fence, crawled under and found the pool. It was drained and a broom and shovel was nearby to sweep out the deep end. From the marks on the pool wall, some other skaters were there before me. The transition was very steep, in fact the deep end transition was like the shallow end of a pool! Another problem was the drains poked out of the bottom about an inch, creating a huge hazard. I tried to skate it for a few minutes, but didn't have much success.
It was strange, trying to skate a pool where hundreds of prostitutes once swam...
