Chicago finally has a decent concrete public skatepark! After the abortion called Burnham, it looks like the city learned it's lesson and did things right. SITE Design Group was called to design the park. The construction job went to END Construction, who did a good job pouring the concrete. I heard that a local skater was hired on as a consultant to make sure things were done right.
Now to the good stuff...
This park is FUN!!! The bowl is about 4' in the shallow and around 8-9' in the deep. There is a small amount of vert in the deep end, 8" of it I assume. The park also features a huge combi bowl with a tombstone, hips, fast corners, pump humps, etc. The street area will not disappoint anyone either... plenty of ledges, fun boxes, stairs, rails to use.
Free, open dawn to dusk. There is one light that shines on the park at night, but the shadows makes the skating sketchy. The rules say that a waiver must be signed, but I did not see anyone there at the park checking for waivers. Bikes are not allowed, but of course there were a few there. The park does get crowded, after all this is the best free public park in Chicago. Word is another concrete park is in the works.
Located just north of the Magnificent Mile. You can take the train or bus to the Wilson stop. Walk a block or two towards Lake Michigan and you will see the skatepark on the corner of Wilson and Lake Shore Drive.
